About 20% of Americans’ income derives from government checks, from social security to unemployment. The last unemployment checks will run out at the end of this year. Unless a large number of jobs are created, millions will lose all their income and their ability to spend at all, with serious consequences for the economy, beyond the social toll.

Unemployment checks are primarily spent in basic needs at the retail level.
