403,000 new claims for unemployment benefits


New claims for unemployment benefits persist above 400,000 – Oct. 20, 2011.

Last week’s figures were initially quoted as 404,000 and then revised upward to 409,000. The previous week was also revised upward to 405,000. So there is essentially no change in the number of new claims.

Sales of existing homes declined.

Leading economic indicators went up 0.2% in September, a figure which points to slower growth.
