Higher education is the magnet that attracts industry and particularly new technologies. How many new patents are created in New Jersey universities every year? How many research papers are published? Those are the questions we must look at.
Tuition must be supported to attract students from all ways of life.
The amount of support that the state government can give to higher education is dependent not only on the health of the state economy but on how far we can go in reducing the political class footprint on the finances of New Jersey. There is no doubt that high quality of our institutions of superior learning is among the principal conditions required to attract high tech industries to the state.
Accordingly, the government must be prepared, fiscally, to support research and development in our universities, in partnership with the private sector.
